Good evening, first time asking a question here so be easy on me.
I've been searching around for awhile now but can't seem to find my answer so here it goes (also if I'm in the wrong section let me know).
Currently I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 as an AD DC for within my home on a private IP scheme using a .local domain. I'm now in the process of putting together another box that will be hosting my web sites to help cut back on the cost of web hosting, in doing so I've accord static IP addresses from my ISP. Some testing shows that I shouldn't have problems changing everything over to my home for hosting my site (other than trying to find a pretty good control panel to help manage the site remotely without having to use RDP).
What I'd like to do is assign one of the static IPs to my AD DC and rename it from a .local to my .com domain name then add my other server, running the same server, connected to the forest for DNS management from which this new box will be running ISS for dishing out the web sites.
One control panel I'm trying out (Enkompass cPanel) requires it to be on a server as AD DC so that leads me to believe this might just be possible.
I know that there's a way to rename the domain on the server and just need to reboot the computers 2 times for it to take the update but after setting up the glues to point to my Static IP would actually work? Or what other steps would I need to do? Need some guidance here since I just don't know what to keyword search any more.
Thank you.
