Configuring a router as a fallback DNS server.

Hi All,

Im configuring a windows based network at my home for my studies. I have successfully set it all up on one DC, which operates AD, DNS, DHCP and printer services.

Although the system works perfectly, obviously its never ever a good idea to have all that solely rely on one system, but unfortunately I have no machines to spare as a secondary server.

One problem I think I can resolve is DNS. Ive been trying to set it so my clients first query the DC for DNS, but if the DC is unavailable they go straight to the router.

Ive tried adding the router as a secondary forward lookup zone but ive had no luck.

This is what I want to achieve:

Default : Client -> DC[DNS] -> Gateway -> Site

Fallback: Client -> Router[DNS] -> Gateway -> Site

Can anyone help!?

Thanks
