Here is a quirky issue I ran across. I have just recently completely rebuilt our server infrastructure and implemented Server 2008 throughout. The old server that housed our staff documents was named, we'll say OLDSERVER. The issue is some of our staff memebers documents on their workstations are mapped to \\OLDSERVER\staff\%username% and some are mapped to Z:\
Those who are mapped to Z:\ I can simply change the path in Active Directory and be done with it, however, those who have it mapped otherwise I cannot. So here begins my issue. I created a DNS Alias to point OLDSERVER to NEWSERVER which now houses their Data. All clients using Vista and Seven can browse to the UNC path \\OLDSERVER just fine. Any of my XP clients cannot but they can ping OLDSERVER just fine, they can even do an NSLOOKUP.
Does anyone know why this is happening and/or a solution?
Thanks,
Jeremy
