I'm having a problem that has been going on for a few weeks now that involved both my windows 7 RSAT dhcp mmc as well as my DHCP server, where an old decommissioned server was showing along with the correct server.
So I used ADSI edit to goto the "dhcproot" record, and edited the dhcpservers record where I found the old server still listed, so I removed that and restarted the dhcp service, and the old record went away. However, after I did that anytime I try to use my RSAT dhcp tool, no servers show in the list at all. So I tried adding an authorized server, but it said the server was already in the directory, so I then clicked on add server, and found that my dhcp server was not in the list, but if i just enter its hostname, then I can access dhcp. I have to do this every time I want to use the dhcp mmc.
Can anyone help me out with this?
On a side note, if this helps in troubleshooting I tried running: netsh dhcp show server, and I received "The data is invalid" error, both on the server and on my windows 7 machine. But I am just confused, because to me it seems that if I were receiving that error, than dhcp should be acting strange, which it is functioning correctly.
So any help would be appreciated, because it is just a nuisance right now, but I don't want it to become a bigger problem.
