OK scenario I have here is a pair of DA servers on 2012 R2 with hardware load balancer in front.
Windows 7 clients can connect to DA and can successfully access NetApp hosted CIFS shares.
Windows 8.1 clients can connect to DA but get that nice generic 0x80004005 unspecified error in an Network Error dialog when attempting access to the same fileshares. The very same 8.1 clients work fine when on the corporate LAN.
I don't believe this is GPO as the security settings surely would block the on LAN access.
Everything else seems to work fine for these 8.1 clients via DA, web browsing, thick clients..... outlook, lync.....
Have searched technet and there were a couple of postings about SMB2 signing which I have discounted as not applicable as that issue would also manifest on LAN.
I'd appreciate if anyone can suggest what might be causing this....
If its of any consequence the CIFS shares are fronted by an MS DFS server. but again the clients work on LAN so the only truly appreciable difference is that DA is now in the mix.
