I have Windows Server 2008 setup at home. I'm using it as a DC/file server/DHCP/etc. Basically my setup is that I have 2 nics in my machine. The external one gets its IP address from my router, my 2nd nic (internal) is manually assigned an IP and subnet by me with no default gateway. With RRAS setup, my computers contact my server and get ip address's from there rather than from my router. I also have FTP setup using Filezilla for that. It seems like every week or two FTP stops working from an external connection (internal connections still work) and I then have to disable RRAS, re-enable it with NAT and then configure it all over again and then the FTP will work. Why does this happen? It gets old after awhile and most times I'm not ever touching my server unless I need need to reset RRAS. I am running ESXi so Server 2008 is a virtual server. I had this same setup with Server 2003 except that was on a physical machine where this is running on ESXi. My external NIC connects directly to the router and my internal NIC connects to a gigabit switch where all my other computers connect to this same switch as well. I run hard wire on my computers and run wireless for my cell phones so even my cellphones get an IP address from my server. Lately my internet has been crashing on my computers (i.e. page not found) even though it shows I'm connected. When I go to my server and I click on Firefox the internet won't load so I have to reboot my server and then everything comes up fine. If I try to disable my external nic to reset it it just freezes up so that's why I have to reboot my server. Anyone have any thoughts or solutions for this?
Thanks
Adam
