dns suffix appends

I am yet to find issues quite the same, and a bit stumped.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have a web service that I am delivering to multiple clients and the urls look something like

service1.client1.reallylongdomainname.com

service1.client2.reallylongdomainname.com

I was hoping I could add reallylongdomainname.com to my dns suffix search order so that i could resovle to my service addresses via service1.client2 and service1.client1 however this does not seem to work.

It does seem that if I add client1.reallylongdomainname.com to my search list I can indeed resolve to service1 fine, but for client2 I would have to resolve it by its entire fqdn at that point.

My client in this case is a windows 2008 r2 server running terminal services.  These are not A/D zones, just standard DNS stuff.

Thanks in advance!
