I have a newly-created Windows 2012 Server R2 machine which is showing some odd behavior for the Windows DNS service.
The machine is one of two DNS servers and domain controllers in my network. The first DC/DNS server works fine. I find that the newly added machine can correctly respond to queries sent to it with nslookup. However, when I use the "test" button on the "Monitoring" tab in the DNS Manager for this DNS server, both simple and recursive queries fail.
I don't notice any new messages in the event log when a test fails. I've turned on debug logging, and I don't see log of the query in the debug log.
How do I troubleshoot this problem?
