Apologies if I am posting in the wrong area. I am trying to self educate myself to assist a contracted IT guy with a problem we are having. My department operated an Intel Modular server. There were three servers(DC1, DC2 and a RMS server) tied to 6 hard
drives in a RAID 5 array all on the same machine. We suffered a crash last week. The IT guy has been successful in repairing and recovering most of the DC2 and RMS servers and associated databases. The RMS database is missing data for the last 8 months. The
backup files are located on DC1. He has not been able to repair DC1. When we try to boot from an external CD drive the os installation hangs at a certain point. The IT guy says the backup files are on the DC1 D drive. Is it possible to reinstall the os and
not lose the backup files on the D drive?(I would imagine so as he was able to recover data from the other servers.) What's more likely preventing the reinstall of the os, DC1 hardware problems or an issue with the drives? As the server components are identical,
if it's a DC1 hardware issue can we swap in the DC2 card and then try to boot? All DC2 and RMS data has been moved to two distinct servers and a third is on order to function as DC1. Thanks.
