Curious if this matters, but I have DNS records where the owner is the COMPUTERNAME$ if say I were to delete the DNS entry and on the PC run ipconfig /registerdns.
Then I have some DNS records where the owner is dhcpdnssvc which is a domain user account with a strong password. This account is plugged into all DHCP servers (2008 R2).
Lets say the computername$ hosts it. What if the computer goes offline for 8 days, then upon return DHCP gives it a new IP address (lease times are 8 days). Will the dhcpdnssvc have authority to update it?
I don't use DNSUpdateProxy group because the DHCP in question at least at the main office is also a domain controller. The backup DHCP server is also a domain controller, so we use the AD user account.
Thanks for your insight.
