DirectAccess not working properly

Hi All,

I have a Windows 2012 R2 server with the Essentials role installed and have been trying to get DirectAccess working with some Windows 8.1 client laptops. 

Is this type of setup possible?

Is there a problem with DirectAccess being on 2012 R2 server that is a DC with DNS and Essentials roles?

Is there a problem using DirectAccess on a network that has split DNS?

All input appreciated.
