Recently, I found this error on the evntlog of one of Win 2003 servers :
"The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer srv01 that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{E47164BB-A7CC-41EB-A48A. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced."
with :
EventID : 8003
Source : MRxSmb
I know that the Browser service was approximately used for network exploration using NetBios/Wins name resolution
and there is a processus of election between servers so that there is only one master browser per subnetwork at single moment in time.
My question
Is this service still necessary If we consider that :
- 90% of the servers and pc's are 2008/Vista
- DNS resolution is configured on network
- No legacy "Win 2000 or NT" are present on network.
I guess NO and I think I can disable that service without issues on all servers
but If there is some feedback on related error message it would be helpful.
Thanks for any help.
