I'm noting that, in a test lab environment, Server 2008 R2 does not seem to process ICMP redirects to an alternate router to access machines on another network. Is this a common/known issue with Server 2008 R2?
Note: When I say "does not seem to process ICMP redirects" the behaviour observed is that despite receiving ICMP redirects from the default gateway the server's routing table never seems to get up dated, and source packets are continuallyfirst sent to the default gateway which are then sent on to the other - more suitable - router and and ICMP redirect is sent.
