We are beginning a server migration project (new hardware and software) and this is my first experience with Server 2012 R2. I have 2 new servers and a Windows 10 workstation connected to a new switch and otherwise isolated from the old network. The server that will be the new DC has a second NIC that is connected to a router and is successfully providing Internet access to the DC. After completing the initial setup of 2 new servers and assigning them computer names and static IP address, I used Server Manager to add roles to what will become the new DC, but the system isn't behaving the way the old does. Specifically, it doesn't register the second server or the workstation, even though they can accessed by IP address. It's also not providing Internet access to the second server or workstation. Both are in the new domain I created for the new network.
All my pre-install reading suggested that I use a domain name with a valid TLD, so I registered <mydomainname>.INFO and used that rather than using <mydomainname>.LOCAL like I did for the old network. At least one DNS error I've seen was complaining about not being able to write to an IP address that I have traced to the GoDaddy name server for the .INFO domain name. I just need to get the basic config working correctly so I can move on to with the migration. Is anybody willing to help me out with what will probably be my LAST major upgrade? :)
