DNS clients failed to register

I have a 2008R2 domain.  I just changed to "secure only" updates for DNS about 3 months ago.  I just had (2)2008R2 Windows servers with static IPs(No dhcp), that have been dynamically updating for years, reboot for windows updates last night(they apply updates every month) and lose their host records in DNS when they rebooted.  I checked and they do have the checkbox enabled to register their address, and the DNS client service was running.  For one of them, I ran an"ipconfig /registerdns" from the cmd line on that client, it then did register correctly and fix the problem right away.  For the other one, I remoted in and rebooted the server and it also then registered itself correctly and fixed the problem.  The thing is they are pointed to different DNS servers, and servers losing their host records when they reboot for Windows Updates can lead to bad problems.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave
