Hi
First of all I want to say this may be a pretty long post because I want to get as much details in as possible.
I am currently an intern at a College working in the ICT Department, the rules here in Norway are such that I must work as an intern for two years before I take a final exam and then get my diploma, if I pass of course, anyway the time has come for me to learn how to set up servers, maintain them, set up user profiles, the whole shebang.
I have been getting help from a co-worker but he shows little interest in helping me and an other intern out so we are kind of left to ourselves in figuring stuff out and now we have come across a problem we cannot figure out.
Our co-worker helped us in setting everything up, we installed ESXi 6.0.0. on one computer and we have a different computer with vSphere installed which contains some of our virtual machines that we have used so far, Windows Server 2012 r2 being on of them, the problem now is that our co-worker never helped us connect everything to the internet so our server and our virtual machines have no internet access just locally, he said it was because getting all this on the internet connection while making sure our DHCP didn't deliver IP addresses out to the rest of the workplace was tricky.
We have now come to the point where we have to set up a little virtual work environment with user profiles, few policies and a print server, we have a small printer in the room with the rest of the equipment we are going to use but we figured out getting it connected to the virtual environment is pretty tricky and the only thing our co-worker suggested was setting up a PDF printer and pretending it's a proper printing service is not what we were looking for as this will come up for our exam.
What I am wondering now is does anyone know of a guide or a web site that can explain this detailed so that we can set everything up properly with internet connection while only keeping it local so to say, and not send out IP addresses to the rest of the work place and scrambling up everything in the servers that are set up for the work place as we have a few thousand employees that could suddenly lose all their work because two interns made a mistake.
