Hi all,
we have a network segment that gets IPs via DHCP. When it runs out of addresses for its subnet, the network communication for connected machines(those that already have valid IPs) gets very sluggish. I was always under the impression that if you ran out of IP addresses on a subnet, that all users already with a valid lease would work as normal and no one else would get an IP until one freed up, but it should have no impact on performance. However, this seems not to be the case. I have seen, on multiple subnets, slow network performance once you start reaching the limit on IPs for the particular DHCP subnet. Why is this? Thanks for any info you can provide. It just does not make sense to me.
