NPS (RADIUS) PEAP authentication with certificate from public CA

We are trying to setup NPS (RADIUS) for our WiFi access points, it is currently setup using a certificate from public CA. However when connecting to WiFi from Windows clients, we still get this warning message:

"Continue connecting? If you expect to find [wireless SSID name] in this location, go ahead and connect. Otherwise, it may be a different network with the same name."

I have been researching on this for the past day but there are mixed results out there, some say Windows Wireless Supplicant does not trust ant CA's. Most of other results are focused on this deployment with GPO, which in our case won't work since there are a lot of BYOD's.
In the documentation for NPS certifcates, Microsoft says its possible to get certificates from public CA so I think it should be possible but details are lacking for certificate deployment.

Can someone please chime in and help us figure out a final verdict on this.

Thank you in advance.
