I will be building a database server and I want to have a NIC team for the database activity. Also, I want a NIC to backup the flat database files that the database creates hourly since that activity uses a lot of bandwidth. I was thinking
of installing two 2-port NICs. Port 1 on each NIC will be teamed and used for database activity. One of the remaining ports will have a separate IP just for the hourly backup copy. A backup agent will send these flat files to a backup appliance.
Alternatively, I can create the team from both ports on one NIC and use the other NIC for the backup files. The drawback to this would be if the NIC with the team dies. Then the database will be down. I'm not that knowledgeable on NIC teaming.
Any thoughts?
