Backing up on separate network.

I have a server I am trying to backup to a network share. It is a device created by Drobo. We have multiple servers already connected to it...and this is how they are connected:

Our LAN is a 10.51.x.x network. On each of the servers the first NIC is connected to the 10.51.x.x network. The second NIC in each server is connect to a small switch that is not connected to the 10.51.x.x network at all. This is our 10.10.10.x network that is used specifically for backing up to the Drobo device.

My problem is when I configure the second NIC and plug it into the second switch...I can no longer access the server from another site. It is almost like there is a loop or something keeping other devices from getting to the server. During this whole time I can connect to any other server at any other site from the server that is "down". (I can RDP, PING, whatever out but I cannot ping in to the server from another location)

As soon as I disconnect the patch cable from the NIC that is connected to the 10.10.10 network everything begins to function properly again. We have 4 or 5 other servers that have the exact same config and are working perfectly. What am I missing?
