We are having an issue with several servers which are only in a workgroup. These servers register their DNS in a company.lcl zone, not our company.local zone which all our domain joined machines register DNS in.
One of these servers is listed correctly in the forward lookup zone but in the reverse lookup zone it is listed without its IP. Instead, it is listed as (same as parent folder). I tried to delete it but it is recreated immediately. I cannot add the PTR manually. We only have one DC but we do have a secondary DNS server. It is listed correctly on the secondary DNS server. We cannot ping the server by name. We get "could not find host."
Also, all of these servers get an event 40960 warning...source LSASRV - The security system detected an authentication error for the server DNS/<servername>.company.local. The specified user does not exist.
What is happening here?
