I have a W2008R2 server and don't have something configured right. I have a domain registered with Network Solutions, let's say its xyz.com. My AD domain name is home.xyz.com. If clients on vpn or local try to ping sometimes the DNS server returns the IP of my domain with the registrar. But it doesn't seem to be doing it if I ping client.home.xyz.com or just client. from the DNS server itself. The same thing happens if I try to ping a nonexistent client say badclientname.home.xyz.com. It returns the external IP. Where do I begin to find out why this is happening?
