Direct Access clients unable to connect to shares and some servers

Hi, I have a direct access service built on 2012 R2 and we are using win 8.1 client.

When the client is on the corp network they can access their home drive and shared drive fine, but via direct access these drives do not reconnect, been waiting a long time.

Some things to note;

Client can ping all AD servers and get a reply;

Client can connect via UNC and browse Netlogon & Sysvol on 3 AD servers but not two,

  • Server 1, works
  • Server 2 does not, same physical site different networks
  • Server 3 does not work same network and site as server 1
  • Server 4 remote site stretched network of server 1 and 3, works
  • Server 5 remote site different network, works
  • The Servers publish the DFS shares and we are unable to connect to DFS from any of the servers.

This is odd, we can ping by name, resolve DNS fine and get reply from all 5 servers. All AD servers have IPv6 addresses.

We are also unable to access any of the DFS shares, Home and shared drives mentioned earlier, we can try browse directly to the share location but it fails to connect.

The DFS locations are redirectors to CIFS shares on a NetApp array, we try to connect directly and they fail as with some of the AD servers.

We can connect to some CIFS shares that are located on windows servers and workstations.

Email:

  • Our outlook client connects via TCP to the CAS array address (IP4 only) works as expected.
  • Connection to OWA via same address does not work. This works on the internal network.
  • Connecting to Lync pool via HTTPS works.

This is very frustrating and confusing any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

update:

AD servers are 2008R2 so running SMB 2.10

CIFS NetApp shares SMB v 1.50

Versions listed by accessing shares from DAC server and using GetSMBConnection.
