I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 server running AD domain services, DNS Server, and File Services. The DNS zones are all replicated in AD to the other domain controllers in the domain. For some reason the DNS server stops responding regularly (every few days). It is the only DNS server having these issues (we have 7 domain controllers in the domain configured the same way).
From server manager, I look at the DNS Server service. In best Practices analyzer the only thing there is that my DNS server doesn't have scavenging enabled. In the Event Log I get a bunch of 404 407 and 408 errors (could not open socket on the host's IP address) while the DNS server is down. Once I go and restart the DNS server everything runs fine.
Those errors seem to point to network settings. Looking there, I have the static IP address correct. Everything "looks" right.
Can someone help me figure out why it stops responding?
Thanks!
