We have a 2008R2 Domain and 2008R2 DHCP/DNS servers. We have some DDNS records which have changed from the original name on non-windows clients. Those names never get updated in DNS. All of our DHCP servers are in the DNSupdateproxy group and the settings are as follows
DHCP
Enable DNS dynamic updates - Always dynamically update DNS record
Discard A and PTR record when lease is deleted
Dynamically update DNS records for DHCP clients that do not request updates
DHCP name protection is disabled and NAP not used
DNS
Dynamic updates are set to "Nonsecure and secure"
When I go through the dhcp log, I can see the renewels, but the log also shows the original name of the client(HP ILO) fully qualified. Is the non-windows client not reporting the correct name to DHCP? I deleted the DNS record and waiting for a renew to see if it will recreate with the correct name.
Thanks,
Dan Heim
