DNS doubling up

Hi Guys, 

I have started at a new company and I notice they have a few problems with name resolution. Being that for example in DNS they have 3 different name entries for the same IP. They are not static entries and have time stamps, so I assume its a scavenging not enabled. I have not had to enable this anywhere in the past so is this the cause?
