duplicate name on network

Hi,

I have a standard network comprising of a windows 2003 dc which acts as a dhcp, dns, wins server. I started to have the "duplicate name" error on workstations. I first look on the workstation where the error first appear. Basically, on the workstation in question, I see the event 4321 of source netbt saying that this workstation is trying to record the domain name and that the wins server is rejecting it.

Describing all I did will be too long. I have done a network monitoring and I see this communication from the workstation trying to update the name of the domain on the wins server. I have no idea where this comes from. The workstation has a basic setup, 1 nic, using dhcp.

I don't understand how come this workstation is trying to update the name of the active directory domain (the wins name) on the wins server. Reinstalled the nic, disabled computer browser and other relevant services, reset winsock, assigning static ip, disabled lmhost lookups, and more....

nbtstat -an gives no error on the workstation. But on the server, it gives conflicts for the servername and the domain name. I checekd in wins and all those 2 entries are showing the right IP address.

I have to mention that this server is also a RAS server. Normally I would see that the ras adapter is registering it's IP which could give me this kind of errors (I guess) but what is odd, is that I see this domain registration from the workstation, that is why I did not check that avenue.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
