When I type in a FQDN in a UNC path for a DFS share vs. using the NetBIOS name of the Domain is the name resolution done any differently? i.e. I use\\domain.com\dfs\sharename vs. \\DomainNetBIOSName\DFS\ShareName Does the first one use DNS for name resolution and the second use WINS or do they both always use DNS first? This would be using any OS 2000 an above. My assumption is in a 2000 and above OS it always uses DNS first (well, DNS Cache and then DNS), but I can't find a location to validate this for sure and wanted more than just my assumption. Thanks! Assuming it is correct is DNS always used first for name resolution if on a 2000 and above machine?
