I work in a mixed Windows 7/10 environment using office 2013/2016. For the past couple of months users have been reporting that files are saving with the extension .TMP rather than the appropriate office extension. It can happen to any file type but its tends to occur more often with powerpoint and word files especially if they are a few MB in size or larger but this isn't always the case.
We have tried using group policy to force the file type to the appropriate when saving and specifying an autorecover folder in the users home drive so that the file is backed up every 15 minutes or so. Microsoft released a number of hotfixes for a similar issue on Windows 2008. My servers are Windows 2012 R2 so this is not necessarily going to help me here.

I have hidden the libraries folder on my clients. Could this be causing the problem? Does anyone else have the same issue?
