Hi
I have recently taken over a site where I need to monitor the servers and network of my customers and would like to use the current Windows Server 2003 server to do so. Installing and using 3rd party software is not an option at this stage as things are touch and go and crashing the server or a service on the server cannot happen.
I have some reading up on Server 2003 performance monitor, but am getting mixed messages. From a MS site it shows that Performance Monitor is only available Server 2008 and Performance Monitor can be downloaded. However from a non-MS site it was said that Server 2003 has Performance Monitor installed. The site never mentions anything about Performance Monitor having to be downloaded and installed.
That said my questions are as follows:
1) Do I need to download and install Performance Monitor for Server 2003?
2) Can I monitor the server, SQL DB, Exchange & Network using Performance Monitor?
3) Can I save the reports from Performance Monitor to be put in a report for later use?
4) If Performance Monitor is not available for this server, can I use the system monitor tool instead to do the above?
Your help will be much appreciated.
TIA
